Linda Dachtyl-Hammond Organ
Linda is a Chicken Coup/Summit Records recording artist having released recordings nationally in the jazz organ genre, “Blue Bop” (2006), “For Hep Cats” (2008), A Late One” (2015) and “Waves of Change” (2024) in the progressive rock genre. Chicken Coup Records is owned by international B3 organist Tony Monaco.
She is a Hammond Organ USA artist, endorsing the digital Hammond XK3-C console organ, also plays drums and has played extensively in the local hard rock and jazz circles currently with the popular central Ohio band RoxyJanes. Active as a music educator, Linda has released two jazz organ instructional DVDs through Tony Monaco’s keyboard education division and taught at Ohio Wesleyan University and Kenyon College.
Mark Donavan-Alto and Tenor Saxophone
Mark is a professional music musician and music educator.
A graduate of The Ohio State University and an alumnus of the OSU Jazz Ensemble, he currently leads the saxophone section of the Springfield Symphony Jazz Orchestra.
Mark has also performed with Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, The Rick Brunetto Big Band, the Newark-Granville Symphony, Nova Madrugada, Wally Mitchel, and the Ellington tribute band “Such Sweet Thunder”. He has appeared with a number of national acts including The Temptations, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Frankie Valli, Mary Wilson and The Supremes, and The Four Tops.
Active as a community educator as the artistic director of the Columbus Youth Jazz program at the Columbus Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Academy, he has also lead summer sessions at the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Band Director Academy with Wynton Marsalis and members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
Don Hales-Guitar
Guitarist/composer Don Hales is one of those jazz musicians almost too good to be true and is no stranger to Columbus jazz audiences. Hales grew up in a Toledo neighborhood where he was exposed to a wide variety of ethnic and regional music. He taught himself to play guitar and was tutored by Rusty Bryant while playing in his band with jazz vocalist Nancy Wilson. Hales went on to tour with the saxophone great Eddie Harris and organist Bill Doggett of “Honky Tonk” fame. Locally, he played for many years at Monaco’s Palace with Tony Monaco. Don released “Unified String Theory” on Chicken Coup/Summit Records featuring Tony Monaco which received national airplay. Don is also sought out as an instructor on guitar and theory having taught at Capital University and currently teaches privately.
Cary Dachtyl-Drums
Cary is percussion instructor and director of Percussion Ensembles at Kenyon College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Cary is also owner and editor of Per-Mus Publications, a publishing company specializing in music for percussion. He also owns and operates Pterodactyl Productions, a Columbus recording studio where he records and mixes all types of projects. In addition to playing with Linda, he currently plays drum set for The Uncle Fester Classic Rock Band and timpani and percussion for the Saint Joseph Cathedral Brass and the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra.
